Senate erupts as Akpabio mocks ADC’s collapse following fresh defections and internal crises.

Nigeria’s political scene took a dramatic twist as Senate President Godswill Akpabio publicly declared the African Democratic Congress (ADC) a “dead party” amid a fresh wave of defections rocking the opposition.

The shocking remark was made during plenary while announcing the defection of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe from the ADC to the Labour Party.

“I think ADC is dead,” Akpabio stated bluntly, drawing reactions across the chamber.

Abaribe, who cited internal crises, legal battles, and leadership instability as reasons for his exit, described the decision as “a tough call.”

The development comes amid a growing wave of defections, including high-profile exits by Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, signaling deeper cracks within the party.

Political observers now warn that ADC may be heading toward total collapse as realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
