Fresh international attention hits Nigeria as deadly Plateau attacks spark outrage in the United States.
Fresh international pressure is mounting on Nigeria following the latest deadly violence in Plateau State, as a United States lawmaker has called on former US President Donald Trump to take what he described as “forceful action” over the killings.
US Congressman Riley Moore made the explosive call after reports emerged that gunmen attacked mourners during a burial in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, leaving several people feared dead and many others injured.
The attack, which has triggered outrage on social media, reportedly occurred during a mass burial ceremony for victims killed in an earlier assault. Eyewitness reports claimed heavily armed attackers stormed the gathering and opened fire, causing chaos and panic in the community.
Reacting to the disturbing reports, Moore accused the Nigerian government of failing to adequately protect Christian communities facing repeated attacks in parts of the country. He urged the administration of Donald Trump to intervene strongly and put pressure on Nigerian authorities.
The development has once again reignited conversations around insecurity, religious violence, and the worsening humanitarian crisis in parts of Northern Nigeria. Many Nigerians online also questioned why deadly attacks in Plateau continue despite repeated security deployments.
Security agencies are yet to release a full official casualty figure from the latest incident, but the attack has already sparked fresh fears among residents and intensified calls for urgent action from both the federal government and international bodies.
