Fresh fears over student safety force urgent security response across schools in Osun State

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reportedly directed immediate reinforcement of security measures around schools following the shocking abduction incidents recently recorded in neighbouring Oyo State.

The move comes amid rising anxiety across the South-West after gunmen attacked schools in Oyo communities, killing a teacher and abducting several pupils and school officials. The attacks forced authorities in affected local government areas to temporarily shut down schools while security operations intensified.

Sources within the Osun government said the governor ordered education and security agencies to strengthen surveillance around schools, improve emergency response systems, and ensure students and teachers remain protected against possible threats.

The latest directive is expected to increase police visibility around vulnerable school environments and reinforce collaboration between community leaders, local vigilantes and security agencies. Governor Adeleke has repeatedly emphasised the need to guarantee safe learning environments for children across the state.

Parents across Osun have also expressed concern over the growing wave of attacks targeting schools in parts of Nigeria. Many residents are now calling on both federal and state authorities to urgently address worsening insecurity before it spreads further into more communities.

Security experts warn that attacks on schools could create long-term educational and psychological consequences for children if urgent nationwide preventive measures are not sustained.
