Fresh political tension is building in Rivers as Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s brother officially joins the governorship battle with a shocking one-term pledge.
Ambassador Blessing Fubara Senior, brother to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has formally declared his ambition to contest the Rivers governorship election under the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), setting off fresh political conversations across the oil-rich state.
The governorship hopeful made the declaration ahead of the party’s primary election, describing himself as a “ready, competent and energetic” candidate determined to restore stability, peace and economic prosperity in Rivers State.
In a move already generating reactions online, Blessing Fubara vowed to serve only one term if elected. Political observers believe the promise may be targeted at calming zoning concerns and convincing stakeholders across Rivers that power rotation would be respected.
The declaration comes at a time Rivers politics remains highly tense following prolonged political battles involving Governor Fubara and key power blocs in the state. The entrance of another Fubara into the governorship race is expected to further reshape calculations ahead of the next election cycle.
The aspirant also lamented what he described as the economic decline and loss of dignity in Rivers State, calling for a political “uprising” to reclaim the state’s lost glory and investment opportunities.
