Former Kano Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo secures NDC governorship ticket after Nasiru Gawuna reportedly agreed to contest for Kano Central Senate seat.
The immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gwarzo’s emergence followed a political arrangement within the party after former APC governorship candidate, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, reportedly accepted the Kano Central Senatorial ticket.
The development was disclosed in a statement attributed to former Kano governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
According to the statement, the decisions were reached based on “equity, fairness, loyalty, competence, and the need to strengthen unity” within the movement and the party structure.
Reports indicated that Gawuna had initially rejected the senatorial offer before later accepting it after consultations with political associates and stakeholders.
His acceptance reportedly cleared the path for Gwarzo to emerge as the party’s governorship flag bearer.
Party insiders said the arrangement was part of efforts to avoid internal division and strengthen the NDC ahead of the next election cycle in Kano State.
