Police say several others sustained injuries during the shooting in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
Five people have been confirmed dead following a night attack on Gwan-Ajang village in Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Plateau State Police Command said the attack occurred while residents were gathered for a social event in the community.
Police spokesperson Alfred Alabo said officers received a distress call and immediately mobilised to the area after reports of gunfire.
According to the police, several victims were discovered at the scene, while more than ten others reportedly sustained injuries and were taken for medical treatment.
The incident once again places attention on ongoing security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where communities continue to face periodic attacks.
Police authorities said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the assault.
