The Nigeria Police Force says operatives successfully rescued the relatives of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, days after their abduction in Oyo State.
The Inspector-General of Police has commended operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) following the successful rescue of the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons who were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The victims, identified as Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were rescued during a coordinated operation carried out by FID-IRT operatives in Ibadan. Police authorities said the operation followed sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance and tactical interventions that helped track the kidnappers.
According to the police, the victims were abducted on June 3 while Mrs. Adegoke was taking her children to school. Their rescue came three days later after operatives intensified efforts to locate the kidnappers and secure their freedom.
Video footage released by the Nigeria Police Force showed officers escorting the rescued victims to safety following what authorities described as an intelligence-driven and tactically coordinated operation. The footage also captured the arrest of at least two suspects linked to the abduction.
The development highlights the increasing reliance on intelligence-led policing in tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes, particularly in parts of the country where abduction-for-ransom cases continue to pose security challenges.
Police authorities said investigations into the incident remain ongoing as efforts continue to identify and apprehend other members of the kidnapping network.
