Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu says coordinated “Handshake Patrols” and inter-state security operations are now underway as efforts continue to rescue abducted Oriire schoolchildren and other kidnap victims nationwide.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has announced the deployment of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police to the country’s six geopolitical zones as part of renewed security operations targeting kidnapping and violent crimes across Nigeria.
The move comes amid intensified rescue efforts for abducted schoolchildren from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State and other kidnap victims across the country. Authorities said the newly introduced inter-state operations, described as “Handshake Patrols,” are designed to strengthen coordination between commands and improve response across state boundaries.
The latest deployment reflects a broader restructuring of operational strategy within the Nigeria Police Force as security agencies continue to confront rising concerns over abductions and attacks in several parts of the country.
Reports indicate that the police leadership also assured families of the abducted pupils and teachers that ongoing operations remain focused on securing their safe return.
The development follows recent security operations in Oyo State linked to the abduction case involving schoolchildren and education workers in communities within the Oriire axis.
