Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga described Peter Obi as a “copy-and-paste politician” while defending President Bola Tinubu’s leadership record.

The Presidency on Wednesday intensified criticism of former Anambra State governor and 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, describing him as a politician lacking original ideas and leadership depth.

Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the remarks in a post shared on his verified X account.

According to Onanuga, Obi “has never shown original, authentic thinking,” adding that the former governor was “a copy-and-paste politician.” He also referenced comments allegedly made by former Anambra governor Willie Obiano concerning Obi’s handling of security during his tenure in the state.

The remarks come amid growing political conversations around the 2027 presidential race and renewed scrutiny of opposition figures positioning themselves ahead of the election cycle.

Onanuga further argued that Nigeria requires leadership driven by strategic thinking and proven execution, insisting that Obi could not be compared with President Tinubu.

“Peter Obi is no match for President Bola Tinubu. They are not on the same level,” the presidential aide stated.

The latest exchange adds to ongoing political tensions between supporters of the ruling administration and opposition figures ahead of what is expected to be an increasingly active pre-election period.
