The Senate Public Accounts Committee intensified its probe into alleged financial discrepancies flagged in NNPCL audit reports covering 2017 to 2023.
The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has intensified its investigation into alleged financial discrepancies involving the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), summoning former Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, alongside other former officials of the company.
The committee’s investigation centres on audit reports covering the period between 2017 and 2023, during which over ₦210 trillion was reportedly flagged in queried financial records and expenditures.
Lawmakers said previous explanations submitted by the company were considered unsatisfactory, prompting renewed pressure on former management officials to appear before the committee and respond directly to the audit queries.
Reports indicated that the committee threatened to issue arrest warrants against officials who fail to honour the summons as the probe continues. The development reflects growing legislative scrutiny over financial accountability within the state-owned oil company.
The inquiry is being led by the Senate Committee on Public Accounts chaired by Senator Ahmed Wadada. According to reports, the panel is reviewing multiple audit concerns linked to the management of public funds and operational expenditures within the oil sector.
At the time of filing this report, neither Mele Kyari nor the NNPCL had issued an official response regarding the latest developments surrounding the investigation.
