Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has criticised former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, accusing him of failing to offer meaningful ideas during his time in government.

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has publicly criticised former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, accusing him of failing to make meaningful contributions to governance while he served in office.

Governor Yusuf made the remarks on Wednesday at the Government House in Kano while presenting a Certificate of Return to the newly elected member of the House of Representatives for Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency, Hon. Shu’aibu Rabi’u Nagogo. According to reports, the governor used the occasion to respond to criticism from Gwarzo, saying the former deputy governor had not offered useful ideas during his period in office.

The exchange adds another layer to the increasingly public disagreement between the two political figures. In recent weeks, Gwarzo had questioned aspects of the Yusuf administration, including its handling of security issues in Kano, placing their political relationship under renewed scrutiny.

By responding directly and in public, Yusuf has moved the disagreement beyond indirect criticism into a more open political confrontation. The remarks also suggest that what began as criticism of government performance has now widened into a dispute over each man’s role and relevance within the administration they once served together.

For now, the governor’s position is that Gwarzo did not make meaningful contributions during his time in office, a claim that has further sharpened an already visible rift within Kano’s political space.
