The Oyo State Police Command has rescued two children abducted in Ebinpejo Village, Lanlate, in Ibarapa East Local Government Area, arrested four suspected kidnappers and recovered sophisticated firearms in separate intelligence-led operations across the state. The operations were carried out in collaboration with the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes and hunters.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, armed hoodlums invaded Ebinpejo Village on June 27, ransacked homes, assaulted residents and abducted two children before fleeing.
Following a distress report, the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed the Divisional Police Officer in Lanlate to mobilise police operatives alongside personnel of the Amotekun Corps, local vigilante groups and hunters for an intensive rescue operation.
The joint security team, acting on credible intelligence and technical surveillance, traced the suspects to a forest hideout, rescued the two children unharmed and arrested four suspects. The command added that investigations are continuing to apprehend other members of the gang.
The police said the operation reflects the command’s continued reliance on intelligence-led policing and inter-agency collaboration in combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across Oyo State. The latest breakthrough comes amid sustained efforts by security agencies to improve public safety through coordinated operations.
The command also announced the recovery of sophisticated firearms during separate operations and commended the support of the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, hunters and members of the public whose cooperation contributed to the success of the missions.
Police reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property while urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
The rescued children have been reunited with their families, while the four suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. The Oyo State Police Command said efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate.
