Senate President Godswill Akpabio has predicted that opposition parties, including the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), will allege electoral fraud if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu secures victory in the 2027 presidential election, urging supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to remain focused on mobilising voters.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win a second term in office in the 2027 presidential election, predicting that opposition parties would reject the outcome and claim the poll was rigged.

Akpabio made the remarks on Wednesday while receiving members of the City Boy Movement during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja, where he commended the group’s grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of the next general election.

Speaking during the meeting, Akpabio described the City Boy Movement as a critical political platform capable of strengthening support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He said that while APC supporters were actively mobilising across the country, opposition parties were not matching the same level of grassroots engagement.

According to the Senate President, once President Tinubu’s victory is announced in 2027, some opposition parties and their supporters would likely allege that the election was manipulated.

Akpabio urged APC supporters to ignore such anticipated criticisms and remain committed to voter mobilisation and political participation.

The comments come as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election continue to gather momentum, with major parties stepping up consultations, endorsements and mobilisation efforts across the country.

President Tinubu is expected to seek re-election on the platform of the APC, while leading opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, have continued consultations ahead of the polls.

Akpabio reiterated his confidence that the APC would secure victory if supporters remained united and sustained their grassroots mobilisation efforts nationwide.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the NDC nor the ADC had officially responded to Akpabio’s latest remarks.

Akpabio’s comments add to the growing political rhetoric ahead of the 2027 elections, as leaders across the country’s major political parties continue to project confidence about their electoral prospects. With campaigns expected to intensify in the coming months, debates over governance, performance and electoral credibility are likely to remain at the centre of Nigeria’s political discourse.
