National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Senate President David Mark has called on the Federal Government to take urgent and decisive steps to halt the renewed wave of killings and kidnappings in Benue and Plateau states, warning that no Nigerian community should be left at the mercy of armed groups.

Former Senate President David Mark has raised fresh concerns over the worsening security situation in Nigeria’s North-Central region, urging authorities to act swiftly before violence spirals further out of control.

His remarks follow renewed attacks in Benue and Plateau states that have left dozens dead, displaced residents and heightened fears among farming communities already grappling with persistent insecurity.

In a statement issued on Monday, Mark said the Federal Government must move beyond routine condemnations and deploy stronger security measures to end the recurring bloodshed.

He stressed that those responsible for the killings and kidnappings should be identified, arrested and prosecuted, warning that continued impunity would only embolden armed groups operating across affected communities.

The former Senate President declared that no Nigerian community should be abandoned to armed criminals or violent militias, describing the continued attacks as unacceptable.

He also appealed to the Benue State Government, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organisations and community stakeholders to strengthen collaboration with security agencies by providing timely intelligence capable of preventing future attacks.

Benue and neighbouring Plateau have witnessed repeated attacks in recent months, with communities recording fatalities, kidnappings and destruction of property.

The violence has renewed calls for improved intelligence gathering, stronger security deployments and long-term strategies to address the underlying causes of insecurity in the region.

Mark’s intervention adds to the growing pressure on the Federal Government to strengthen security operations in Nigeria’s Middle Belt. As affected communities continue to mourn fresh losses, attention is now focused on whether authorities will introduce additional measures to curb the violence and restore public confidence.
