Popular Nigerian content creator and disc jockey DJ Chicken has been released from custody after spending about a week at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, expressing gratitude to Seyi Tinubu following his release while his criminal case remains before the court.
Controversial Nigerian content creator and disc jockey Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has regained his freedom after spending about a week in prison over allegations relating to threats made against Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The social media personality was released after meeting the bail conditions earlier imposed by a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos. Following his release, DJ Chicken publicly expressed appreciation to Seyi Tinubu in a video that has since gone viral across social media platforms.
DJ Chicken Released After Meeting Bail Conditions
DJ Chicken was arraigned on July 10 before Magistrate M. F. Onamusi on a three-count charge bordering on alleged threat to kill, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and offences under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act.
He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The court granted him ₦1 million bail with two sureties in like sum but ordered that he be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until the bail conditions were perfected.
Viral Video Shows DJ Chicken Praising Seyi Tinubu
Shortly after regaining his freedom, videos circulating online showed the entertainer thanking Seyi Tinubu.
In one of the clips, DJ Chicken repeatedly praised the President’s son, describing him in positive terms while expressing gratitude following his release.
The video has generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users interpreting his remarks as appreciation after regaining his liberty, while others questioned the sudden change in tone considering the events that led to his arrest.
The prosecution stemmed from a viral video in which DJ Chicken allegedly made threatening remarks against Seyi Tinubu while commenting on Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
Following widespread public criticism, the content creator released another video in which he retracted the statement, insisting it was intended as a joke to generate online attention and that he never intended to harm Seyi Tinubu.
Despite the apology, authorities proceeded with criminal charges, leading to his arraignment before the Lagos Magistrate’s Court.
Sowore Had Earlier Offered Support
Before DJ Chicken’s release, former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore publicly offered legal and advocacy support, arguing that the entertainer should not remain behind bars over the allegations.
Sowore criticised the prosecution and called for the content creator’s release while maintaining that the matter should be resolved through due legal process.
Case Still Before the Court
Although DJ Chicken has regained his freedom on bail, the criminal proceedings have not been concluded.
The case has been adjourned to August 3, 2026, when the court is expected to continue hearing the matter.
His release should therefore not be interpreted as an acquittal, as the charges remain before the court for determination.
