Fresh cracks have emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State after the campaign organisation of former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Maitama Tuggar distanced itself from reports claiming it had thrown its weight behind the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
In a statement, the Yusuf Maitama Tuggar Campaign Organisation dismissed reports suggesting its supporters had accepted the outcome of the APC governorship primary and pledged loyalty to former Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar (SAN). The group insisted no such decision had been taken.
Campaign Rejects Primary Outcome
The organisation maintained that it does not recognise the outcome of the APC governorship primary, alleging that the process failed to comply with the party’s constitution and internal democratic procedures.
According to the statement, what transpired was “not an election but a selection,” arguing that party members were denied the opportunity to participate in a transparent primary process.
It further urged supporters to disregard reports suggesting that the Tuggar political structure had resolved to work for the APC governorship candidate.
Denies Endorsement Claims
The campaign organisation described media reports claiming it had endorsed Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar as “false and misleading.”
It insisted that Ambassador Tuggar had neither congratulated the APC candidate nor instructed his supporters to collapse their political structure into the campaign of the party’s flagbearer.
Crisis Deepens Within Bauchi APC
The latest development highlights the continuing divisions within the Bauchi APC following the party’s governorship primary.
Political observers say the disagreement could affect the party’s preparations for the 2027 governorship election if reconciliation efforts fail.
