Vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has urged Nigerians to believe Peter Obi’s pledge to serve only one four-year term if elected president in 2027, saying the agreement was built on trust and formally documented.
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has expressed confidence that NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi will honour his commitment to serve only one term if elected in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview on News Central’s 60 Minutes, Kwankwaso said Nigerians should have no reason to doubt Obi’s public promise, describing him as a “gentleman” who has demonstrated sincerity in the coalition’s power-sharing arrangement.
‘Nobody Should Doubt Him’
Responding to questions about Obi’s commitment to a single four-year tenure, Kwankwaso said he personally trusts the former Anambra State governor.
According to him:
“I personally believe Peter Obi is a gentleman and I have every reason to trust him… Nobody should have any reason to doubt him.”
Agreement Was Put in Writing
Kwankwaso revealed that the one-term arrangement was not merely verbal but backed by written agreements.
He disclosed that coalition partners signed one agreement for the party and another specifically between himself and Obi, adding that the understanding is for power to return to Northern Nigeria after a single four-year presidency.
Power-Sharing at the Centre of NDC Coalition
The former Kano State governor explained that the arrangement was designed to preserve balance within the coalition and strengthen unity among its members ahead of the 2027 general election.
He said respecting the agreement would reinforce trust among stakeholders and demonstrate the coalition’s commitment to its founding principles.
