American singer Chris Brown has received an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, following his guilty plea over an assault on music producer Abraham Diaw at a London nightclub in February 2023.
The R&B singer, 37, was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court in London on Monday, October 26, 2026, after admitting a charge of affray arising from the incident at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair.
The suspended sentence means Brown will not immediately serve the prison term, provided he complies with the applicable conditions and does not trigger the suspension through further offending.
The case concerns an incident in which Brown attacked Diaw with a tequila bottle, leaving the music producer with head and knee injuries.
Court Hears Details of Nightclub Assault
Prosecutors told the court that Brown struck Diaw repeatedly with a bottle during the nightclub incident, including blows to the head.
The court heard that the attack occurred in the early hours of February 19, 2023, at the Tape nightclub in central London.
The incident was described during the proceedings as a serious act of public violence.
Brown and his vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, had initially faced more serious allegations relating to the incident before both men pleaded guilty to affray in July 2026.
Akinlolu, who was also involved in the attack, received a four-month suspended sentence.
The court’s decision followed consideration of the guilty pleas and other circumstances presented during the sentencing proceedings.
Case Followed International Tour and Arrest
Brown was arrested in May 2025 after returning to the United Kingdom, more than two years after the nightclub incident.
His arrest raised uncertainty over his international touring commitments while the case remained unresolved.
He was subsequently released on bail after agreeing to provide financial security of £5 million, allowing his tour to continue.
The case has attracted international attention because of Brown’s global profile as a recording artist and his previous history of legal controversies involving violence.
In 2009, Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna, and received a sentence that included probation.
The latest sentence relates specifically to the London nightclub incident and should be understood in the context of the offence before the court.
The suspended prison term means Brown has avoided immediate imprisonment in this case, although the sentence remains a criminal penalty and may carry consequences if the conditions governing its suspension are breached.
