Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have recorded a major breakthrough after a senior finance operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) surrendered alongside his two male children in Borno State amid sustained military offensives against terrorist enclaves.
The Nigerian Army has confirmed the surrender of a senior ISWAP finance operative to troops of Operation HADIN KAI, describing the development as another significant gain in ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.
According to the military, the suspect surrendered to troops of the 3 Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis on the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route in Borno State. He was accompanied by his two male children.
Army Recovers Weapons, Cash
The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, said preliminary investigations identified the surrendered suspect as the Chief Finance Operative of the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram, where he managed the group’s finances and logistics.
Items recovered from him include:
- One AK-47 rifle
- Four magazines
- 101 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
- One motorcycle
- ₦40,000 cash
The recovered items have been taken into military custody as investigations continue.
Wave of Terrorist Surrenders Continues
The Army disclosed that the surrender comes amid an increasing wave of defections from terrorist ranks.
According to the military, about 46 terrorists and their family members have voluntarily surrendered to troops in recent days as sustained land and air offensives continue to weaken insurgent strongholds across the North-East.
Military Sustains Pressure
Operation HADIN KAI said intelligence-driven operations will continue until terrorist groups are dismantled and lasting peace is restored to affected communities.
Military authorities added that surrendered suspects will undergo profiling and investigation in line with established procedures.
