Detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu has formally terminated the services of his longtime personal lawyer, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, directing him to immediately stop representing him, his family and IPOB in any capacity.
Nnamdi Kanu has officially ended his professional relationship with Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor through a letter reportedly written from the Sokoto Correctional Centre.
In the letter, Kanu stated that the decision formalised an earlier verbal termination of Ejiofor’s engagement as his personal legal representative. He also revoked any authority previously granted to the lawyer to act or speak on his behalf or on behalf of his family and the IPOB organisation.
Orders Immediate Withdrawal
Kanu directed Ejiofor to immediately cease:
- Representing him in any legal or public matter.
- Speaking on behalf of his family.
- Acting for or issuing statements on behalf of IPOB.
He maintained that the lawyer no longer had any mandate to represent his personal interests or those of the organisation.
Ejiofor Responds
Reacting to the development, Ejiofor acknowledged the termination and said he would respond appropriately at the right time.
In a statement, the lawyer suggested that further details surrounding the matter would eventually become public, adding that “time is running out” for those involved in what he described as efforts to distort the facts.
Fresh Twist in Kanu’s Legal Battle
The latest development adds another chapter to the long-running legal and leadership issues surrounding Kanu and his legal representation.
As of the time of reporting, there was no indication that the dismissal would affect the lawyers currently handling Kanu’s pending legal matters before the courts.
