President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties, a body established during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration to oversee the sale, lease and privatisation of federal government properties.
The Presidency announced the decision in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, saying all responsibilities previously handled by the committee will now be coordinated by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).
Committee Exceeded Original Mandate
According to the Presidency, the Federal Government concluded that the committee had extended beyond the purpose for which it was created.
The statement said its activities had resulted in multiple litigations across the country, making its continued existence unjustifiable. Consequently, President Tinubu ordered its immediate dissolution.
Committee Was Created Under Obasanjo
The Presidential Implementation Committee was established in 2000 during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to supervise the privatisation, sale and lease of Federal Government landed assets under the monetisation policy introduced at the time.
With the dissolution, all pending and future matters relating to the committee’s mandate will be handled directly through the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.

The Presidency said the move is part of broader efforts to streamline the management of federal government properties and reduce administrative bottlenecks associated with the committee’s operations.
