The South-East chapter of the Kwankwaso National Network (KNN) has declared that it is mobilising support to deliver at least five million votes for the proposed Peter Obi–Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso presidential ticket in the 2027 general election, insisting that the region’s electorate—not political office holders—will determine its voting direction.
The group made the declaration in Umuahia, Abia State, where its South-East Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Ukpai Iro Ukpai, rejected claims that governors in the region had endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term. He maintained that only the people have the constitutional right to decide who they will vote for in 2027.
‘One Million Votes from Each South-East State’
According to Ukpai, the KNN has already begun grassroots mobilisation aimed at securing one million votes each from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States.
He said the organisation was working with strategic partners across the region to build support for the proposed Obi–Kwankwaso alliance ahead of the next presidential election.
Rejects Claims of Regional Endorsement
The group also dismissed suggestions that the South-East had already aligned with President Tinubu’s re-election bid, arguing that endorsements by political leaders do not necessarily reflect the wishes of the electorate.
Ukpai stressed that Nigerians would ultimately determine the outcome of the election through their votes.
2027 Political Realignments Continue
The statement comes amid increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with various support groups positioning themselves behind different candidates and alliances.
Political observers expect coalition-building and regional mobilisation to intensify as political parties prepare for the official campaign season.
