President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a new salary structure for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, with increases ranging from 30 per cent to 80 per cent depending on rank.
The new salary structure is expected to take effect from September 1, 2026, with about 250,000 military personnel projected to benefit from the review.
How the salary increase works
Under the approved structure, the percentage increase differs according to rank.
Personnel from the rank of Brigadier-General and above will receive a 30 per cent increase, while officers from Colonel down to Warrant Officer are expected to receive a 50 per cent increase.
The new arrangement is part of a broader review of military remuneration and welfare under the Tinubu administration.
