The Abia State Government has paid ₦25 million to support the medical treatment of veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu, fulfilling a promise made by Governor Alex Otti after the actress publicly appealed for financial assistance for urgent surgeries.

The payment was made directly to the hospital where the actress is receiving treatment, according to the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Dr. Justice Okey Martins (JMartins), who announced the development in a post on X.

Payment Made Directly to Hospital

JMartins disclosed that Governor Otti fulfilled his commitment before the close of work on Wednesday by directing the release of ₦25 million to the hospital treating the veteran actress.

He thanked the governor for honoring his promise, describing the intervention as a demonstration of compassion and support for the creative industry.

Actress Had Sought ₦30 Million

Ngozi Nwosu recently appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance after revealing she had been hospitalized for weeks and required three surgeries estimated to cost ₦30 million.

Earlier in the week, Governor Otti had approved the first phase of her medical support following widespread public concern over her health. The latest payment covers ₦25 million of the required medical expenses, while supporters have continued to encourage further public assistance if needed.

Support for a Nollywood Veteran

Ngozi Nwosu is regarded as one of Nollywood’s veteran actresses, with decades of contributions to Nigeria’s film and television industry.

The intervention by the Abia State Government has been welcomed by members of the entertainment industry, who praised Governor Otti for responding swiftly to the actress’s medical appeal.
