Liverpool Striker Looks To Build On Strong Start After Difficult Debut Season

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak is attracting renewed attention after making an improved start to the new Premier League campaign.

The Swedish forward joined Liverpool from Newcastle United in a British-record transfer worth £125 million in September 2025, but his first season at Anfield was disrupted by injuries and limited playing time.

He scored only three Premier League goals during the 2025/26 campaign.

Isak’s Difficult First Season

Expectations were enormous when Liverpool signed Isak after his outstanding final campaign with Newcastle.

The striker had scored 23 Premier League goals for Newcastle during the 2024/25 season and was regarded as one of Europe’s elite attacking talents.

His Liverpool debut season, however, did not go according to plan.

Injuries restricted him to 14 Premier League appearances, eight starts and 703 minutes, during which he scored three league goals and provided one assist.

That record was well below the level expected from a player acquired for such a significant transfer fee.

Liverpool Expect More From Isak

Liverpool entered the 2026/27 season hoping for a fully fit Isak to rediscover the form that made him one of the Premier League’s most dangerous forwards.

The Premier League’s official Fantasy Premier League coverage identified Isak as one of the players capable of making a major impact this season, noting that he had returned to fitness and enjoyed a productive pre-season.

The striker scored and assisted in Liverpool’s pre-season meeting with Monaco, offering an early indication that he could have a stronger campaign.

Early-Season Contribution

Isak has already opened his account in the new Premier League season, scoring against Nottingham Forest.

His goal came despite Liverpool struggling to consistently create opportunities for him.

The National noted that Isak had only eight touches against Forest before scoring from close range, illustrating both his efficiency and the limited service he received.

The striker’s ability to convert chances even when he receives limited involvement has strengthened expectations surrounding his second season.

A Chance To Rebuild His Reputation

Liverpool’s new campaign offers Isak an opportunity to put his injury-hit first season behind him.

The club invested heavily in the Swedish striker because of his proven scoring record at Newcastle, where he became one of the Premier League’s leading forwards.

With Liverpool undergoing a broader transition, including a change in management, Isak is expected to play an important role in the club’s attack.

His pace, movement and finishing ability make him a key component of Liverpool’s attacking plans.

Bigger Expectations In 2026/27

Liverpool supporters will expect significantly more goals from Isak this season.

The striker’s challenge will be to remain fit, establish a consistent rhythm and develop a strong understanding with Liverpool’s creative players.

Given his previous record in England, there is considerable belief that a healthy Isak can produce a much stronger return.

The early stages of the season have therefore attracted renewed optimism around the £125 million signing.

For Isak, the objective is simple: turn that potential into sustained Premier League production.
