Alhaji Muhammadu Besse, a former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Koko/Besse Local Government Area of Kebbi State, has reportedly died while in bandits’ captivity after spending weeks in the custody of his abductors.
Besse was abducted alongside another elderly resident during an attack by suspected bandits. The two men later appeared in a widely circulated video from captivity, where they appealed for assistance and described the difficult conditions they were facing.
Reports from the area indicated that the former APC chairman and his fellow captive had been held under harsh conditions, raising concerns about their health and wellbeing.
The reported death adds another dimension to concerns over the security situation in parts of Kebbi State, where cases of kidnapping and bandit attacks have continued to affect local communities.
Security agencies had previously acknowledged reports surrounding the condition of abducted victims in the area while rescue efforts continued. Authorities also indicated that operations were ongoing to secure the release of those still in captivity.
As of the latest reports, attention remains focused on efforts to address the activities of armed groups operating in affected communities across Kebbi State.
