Residents flee in fear after deadly bandit raids turned multiple Katsina communities into scenes of chaos and mourning.

Fresh fear has gripped residents of Katsina State after coordinated attacks by armed bandits reportedly left at least 12 people dead in another terrifying wave of violence rocking northern Nigeria.

According to local reports, the heavily armed attackers stormed communities in Kankia Local Government Area, opening fire on residents in broad daylight before fleeing into surrounding forests. Witnesses said the gunmen invaded the villages on motorcycles, shooting sporadically and causing residents to run for safety as panic spread across the affected communities.

The Katsina State Police Command confirmed that the attacks were believed to be reprisal operations following recent security crackdowns against criminal gangs in the area. Police spokespersons disclosed that tactical teams were immediately mobilised after the attacks and succeeded in repelling some of the assailants during intense gun battles.

Residents, however, expressed frustration over the worsening insecurity, accusing authorities of failing to provide adequate protection despite repeated warnings about possible attacks. Some locals described the latest killings as horrifying, saying several victims were caught completely unaware during the coordinated raids.

The incident has once again reignited national concern over the persistent insecurity ravaging northern Nigeria, where banditry, kidnappings, and deadly village attacks continue to claim lives despite ongoing military operations. Security experts have repeatedly warned that armed groups are becoming more organised, raising fears of further attacks across vulnerable communities.

Meanwhile, security agencies have assured residents that aggressive manhunts and bush-combing operations are ongoing to track down the perpetrators and prevent further bloodshed in the affected communities.
