The Nigerian Army has approved a strategic redeployment of senior officers, with new appointments affecting operational, command, training and administrative positions across the country.

The Nigerian Army has announced a major reshuffle of its senior leadership, approving a series of strategic appointments that affect key operational, command, training and administrative positions across the country. The redeployment was approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, as part of efforts to strengthen the Army’s operational effectiveness in addressing emerging security challenges.

According to the Army, Major General W.M. Dangana has been appointed the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, succeeding Major General E.F. Oyinlola. Major General E.I. Okoro has also been named General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, replacing Major General E.E. Emeka.

The reshuffle further sees Major General J.R. Lar appointed Commander of the Army Headquarters Garrison. Brigadier General O.M. Oyekola has been named Acting Military Secretary (Army), while Brigadier General I. Waziri retains his position as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff. The appointments form part of a wider redeployment of senior officers across several formations and institutions of the Nigerian Army.

The latest redeployment reflects the Army’s continued review of its command structure as it repositions personnel across operational theatres, headquarters and administrative offices. The changes affect commands responsible for internal security operations, training and strategic administration, underscoring the Army’s ongoing organisational adjustments.

In announcing the postings, the Nigerian Army stated that the strategic redeployment was approved by the Chief of Army Staff to enhance the service’s capacity to respond to evolving security challenges across the country. The Army said the appointments span operational, command, training and administrative responsibilities.

The newly announced appointments take immediate effect, with the affected senior officers expected to assume their respective responsibilities as the Nigerian Army implements the latest changes in its command structure.
