Military Authorities Tighten Grip As Viral Arrest Triggers Heated Reactions Across Nigeria

Fresh controversy has erupted around the Nigerian Army following a stern warning issued to soldiers against social media use after the arrest of popular influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere, widely known as “Justice Crack.”

The warning, delivered by the Army Provost Marshal, Major General Mathias Erebulu, comes amid growing outrage over the influencer’s arrest after he reportedly shared complaints from soldiers concerning poor feeding and welfare conditions. The Army insisted that military personnel have “no business” on social media platforms and warned that violators would face punishment.

According to military authorities, Justice Crack allegedly crossed the line by engaging soldiers in discussions that bordered on “subversion” and attempts to incite dissatisfaction within the ranks. The Army maintained that the issue goes beyond ordinary welfare complaints and touches on national security concerns.

However, the development has sparked intense reactions online, with many Nigerians accusing the military of trying to silence criticism rather than addressing the welfare concerns raised by troops. Rights activists and social media users have continued to question why complaints about soldiers’ feeding conditions led to arrests instead of reforms.

The matter became even more dramatic after reports emerged that Justice Crack was later arraigned before a Federal High Court and remanded in DSS custody over alleged cybercrime offences linked to the viral claims.

As debates intensify, many observers believe the incident has exposed deeper tensions within the military over discipline, digital freedom, and welfare transparency in the age of social media.
