Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged the Federal Government to take decisive action against those responsible for the latest killings in Sokoto State, calling on authorities to move beyond condolence messages and bring perpetrators to justice.

Atiku made the call following the killing of 32 people in Ungushi community, Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The attack reportedly occurred on Friday when armed men invaded the community while residents were observing Jumu’a prayers.

According to reports, the attackers unleashed violence on residents, resulting in the deaths of dozens of people. Residents were also reported to have killed some of the assailants during the incident.

Reacting to the development, Atiku condemned the killings and described the situation as unacceptable.

The former vice president called on the Federal Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, protect vulnerable communities and ensure that those responsible for the attack are identified and prosecuted.

Atiku argued that repeated expressions of sympathy would not be enough to address the insecurity facing communities across the country.

He urged the government to move from condolences to concrete security action, particularly in areas repeatedly affected by attacks from bandits and other armed groups.

The latest incident has again raised concerns over the security situation in parts of northern Nigeria, where rural communities continue to face threats from armed groups.

Atiku’s intervention comes amid renewed calls for stronger intelligence-led security operations and better protection for vulnerable communities.

He also sympathised with the families of those killed and urged the authorities to ensure that the victims receive justice.

The former vice president’s comments add to growing public pressure on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to prevent further attacks and protect communities affected by insecurity.
