Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has expressed optimism about the direction of Nigeria’s economy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the Federal Government’s reforms offer reasons for hope despite the hardship confronting citizens.
Soludo made the remarks while receiving First Lady Oluremi Tinubu during her official visit to Anambra State.
The governor acknowledged that Nigerians were facing economic difficulties but argued that the reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration could produce better outcomes in the years ahead.
‘I See Hope’
Soludo said Nigerians should look beyond the immediate difficulties and consider what he described as the long-term benefits of the reforms.
“Many are complaining now, but I see hope in the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the governor said.
He expressed confidence that the next four years of Tinubu’s administration could produce what he described as a stronger and fairer Nigeria.
According to him, the President was working towards securing a brighter future for Nigerians.
Economic Reforms Under Tinubu
The Tinubu administration has introduced several major economic reforms since assuming office, including the removal of petrol subsidy and changes to the foreign exchange regime.
The reforms have generated intense debate because of their impact on household costs, transportation, food prices and businesses.
While supporters argue that the measures are necessary to correct longstanding structural problems, critics have questioned the pace of implementation and the immediate burden on Nigerians.
Soludo’s latest comments place him among political leaders who believe the reforms could eventually deliver stronger economic outcomes.
APGA-APC Cooperation
The governor also spoke positively about the relationship between his All Progressives Grand Alliance-led administration and the APC-led Federal Government.
He said the two political structures could work together in the interest of Nigerians.
Soludo said his administration would continue to implement federal reforms at the grassroots level where they could benefit residents.
He also praised the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative and her efforts to support vulnerable Nigerians.
Food Bank Initiative
During the visit, Oluremi Tinubu urged governors in the South-East to work together on the National Community Food Bank programme.
The initiative is designed to provide nutritional support through Primary Health Care centres, particularly for pregnant and breastfeeding women and children below six years.
Reports from the event said thousands of residents benefited from an empowerment programme, receiving items such as sewing machines, livestock, poultry equipment, fish-pond equipment and ovens, alongside financial assistance.
Soludo’s Political Position
Soludo’s comments are notable given the political significance of Anambra and the wider South-East ahead of the 2027 election.
His assessment of Tinubu’s reforms contrasts with strong opposition criticism of the administration’s economic policies.
As political alignments continue to take shape, statements from governors and other influential political figures are expected to play an increasingly important role in shaping public debate over the President’s re-election bid.
