The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has questioned former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s ability to address Nigeria’s economic challenges, expressing confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration will make progress ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Basiru reportedly used the expression “wole wole” while criticising Atiku, making the remark part of the intensifying political exchanges between the ruling party and opposition figures ahead of the next general election.

The APC chieftain also predicted that Nigerians would reject Atiku at the polls, arguing that the former vice-president would struggle to persuade voters that he could provide a better alternative to the current administration.

His comments come amid growing political manoeuvring as parties and prospective candidates begin positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential contest.

Economic management is expected to remain a central issue in the election, particularly as Nigerians continue to assess the effects of government policies on the cost of living, employment, household incomes and business activity.

Tinubu’s administration has defended its economic reforms as necessary measures to stabilise the economy, while critics have questioned the pace at which the benefits are reaching ordinary citizens.

Atiku, meanwhile, has remained a prominent opposition figure and critic of the Federal Government’s economic direction.

Basiru’s remarks reflect the APC’s confidence in its political prospects, but the outcome of the 2027 election will ultimately depend on voters’ assessment of the candidates, their policies and their records in public office.
