Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, urging political supporters to strengthen grassroots mobilisation across the country.
Kalu made the call on Friday during the commissioning of the national secretariat of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement in Abuja, where political leaders and supporters gathered to advance the movement’s campaign activities ahead of the next presidential election.
The lawmaker, who represents Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State, described the establishment of the secretariat as an investment in public engagement and a step towards building a stronger relationship between political leadership and citizens.
He commended Tinubu for what he described as the President’s courage, vision and determination in managing the affairs of the country, particularly amid the economic and governance challenges confronting Nigerians.
According to Kalu, leadership requires the ability to make difficult decisions and remain committed to a long-term vision for national development. He argued that the responsibility of political leaders was to ensure that government policies translated into practical improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens.
The Deputy Speaker also highlighted the importance of expanding the movement’s presence at the grassroots, urging its members to take their mobilisation efforts to communities across the federation.
He called for a coordinated campaign structure that would reach all 774 local government areas and 8,809 wards, with supporters engaging residents directly and explaining the administration’s policies and programmes.
Kalu further emphasised the need for political engagement to remain peaceful and responsive to citizens’ concerns, noting that public confidence in leadership depends partly on the ability of elected officials and their supporters to listen to the people.
The commissioning forms part of broader efforts by supporters of the President to strengthen their organisational structures ahead of the 2027 general election.
The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement is seeking to expand its nationwide network through state chapters, local government coordinators and direct engagement with households and communities.
However, the movement’s ability to translate its growing organisational presence into electoral support will ultimately depend on voters’ assessment of the administration’s record, economic conditions and the competing promises of political parties.
With political activities gathering momentum ahead of the next election, Kalu’s appeal reflects the ruling party’s efforts to consolidate support through grassroots mobilisation and sustained public engagement.
