Former Lagos State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, says he remains confident of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 governorship election, even without the support of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Former Lagos State governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has expressed confidence that he can unseat the ruling APC in the 2027 governorship election, insisting that his political strength extends beyond any individual endorsement, including that of Peter Obi.
Rhodes-Vivour stated that while he appreciates Peter Obi’s popularity and contribution to Nigeria’s political landscape, his political movement in Lagos is built on grassroots engagement, community mobilisation and a broad coalition of residents seeking change.
He maintained that the political realities in Lagos differ from national politics and argued that the state’s electorate is increasingly focused on governance, accountability and improved service delivery rather than personality-based campaigns.
Rhodes-Vivour contested the 2023 Lagos governorship election and emerged as one of the strongest opposition candidates against the APC. Since then, he has remained active in state politics and has continued engaging residents on governance and policy issues ahead of the 2027 elections.
He reiterated his commitment to building a broad political movement capable of challenging the APC, stressing that his focus remains on presenting practical solutions to Lagos’ transportation, housing, education and economic challenges rather than relying solely on endorsements from national political figures.
With political alignments already taking shape ahead of the 2027 elections, Rhodes-Vivour’s remarks are expected to fuel further debate over the influence of Peter Obi’s support base and the evolving dynamics of opposition politics in Lagos State.
