The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Student Engagement, Sunday Asefon, has urged students in Katsina State to mobilise support for the President’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general election.

Asefon made the appeal during the Renewed Hope Student Leaders Engagement and Digital Acceleration Programme in Katsina State, where he encouraged student leaders to mobilise their colleagues for greater participation in the electoral process and support Tinubu’s bid to remain in office.

He cited the administration’s interventions in education, student financing and skills development, as well as efforts to maintain stability in the academic calendar, as reasons students should consider supporting the President.

According to Asefon, the government has introduced policies and programmes intended to improve access to higher education, reduce financial barriers confronting students and equip young Nigerians with skills relevant to the changing world of work.

He particularly highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as an important intervention designed to help students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds continue their tertiary education.

The student engagement aide argued that financial difficulties should not prevent qualified young Nigerians from pursuing their academic ambitions. He also pointed to the importance of maintaining a stable academic calendar and expanding opportunities for skills acquisition.

Asefon’s appeal places students and youth mobilisation within the growing political activity ahead of the 2027 elections. With young people representing a significant constituency in Nigeria’s electoral process, political parties and campaign organisations are expected to intensify efforts to win their support.

However, the administration’s record on education financing, student welfare and employment opportunities is likely to remain part of the wider debate over its performance as the next election approaches.

The call for students to support Tinubu reflects the administration’s efforts to build grassroots political backing among young Nigerians, although individual students remain free to make their own electoral choices.
