Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the 2026 Osun State governorship election was driven by a combination of strong performances in key political strongholds and a statewide spread that ultimately put the Accord Party candidate beyond the reach of his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adeleke secured 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji polled 444,815 votes, giving the incumbent a winning margin of 66,252 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) subsequently declared Adeleke the winner of the election, handing him a second term as governor of the state.
One of Adeleke’s strongest areas was his home base of Ede, where his political support remained significant throughout the election.
Beyond Ede, however, the governor’s victory was not based solely on one local government area. His performance across several parts of the state helped produce the statewide margin required to secure re-election.
The result was also politically significant because the election was closely watched as a test of the APC’s ability to deploy its political structure and federal influence against an incumbent governor.
The APC campaign featured several prominent party figures, including senior federal officials and governors, while Adeleke’s campaign was supported by members of his political network and prominent personalities.
Despite the intensity of the contest, the final result gave Adeleke a decisive margin over Oyebamiji.
The outcome also carries implications beyond Osun, particularly for the political alignments and opposition calculations ahead of the 2027 general election.
Adeleke’s re-election has since been followed by a reaffirmation of his support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid — a development that has added another dimension to the political significance of the Osun result.
