Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election and urged him to continue delivering good governance to the people of the state.

Obasanjo made the call during a congratulatory visit to Adeleke following the governor’s victory in the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.

The former president’s visit came shortly after Adeleke was declared winner of the closely watched election, in which he defeated his major challenger, All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji.

Obasanjo encouraged the governor to see his re-election as another opportunity to serve the people and consolidate on the achievements of his administration.

The former president’s message focused on governance and the need for Adeleke to use his renewed mandate to improve the welfare and development of residents across Osun State.

Adeleke secured a second term after a competitive election that attracted significant national attention, particularly because of the involvement of major political figures and the wider political implications of the result ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor’s victory has continued to attract congratulatory messages from political leaders and stakeholders across the country.

President Bola Tinubu has also congratulated Adeleke on his re-election and urged him to work toward uniting the people of Osun State.

Obasanjo’s latest intervention therefore adds to the growing calls for the governor to focus on governance following the intense political contest.

The former president’s message also underscores the expectations that accompany Adeleke’s renewed mandate as he prepares to begin another term in office.
