The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has displayed separate petitions filed by the APC and PDP challenging Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election.
The legal battle over the outcome of the August 15, 2026 Osun governorship election has formally begun after the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) filed separate petitions challenging Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election.
The two petitions were displayed on the notice board of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo on Monday, marking the formal commencement of proceedings over the election.
APC Challenges Election Result
The APC petition is marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026 and was filed by the party’s governorship candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
The petition names Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents.
PDP Also Files Petition
The PDP filed a separate petition marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026 through Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola.
The respondents listed in the PDP petition include Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.
Adeleke’s Election
Adeleke contested the election on the Accord Party platform and was declared the winner after polling 511,067 votes, while APC candidate Oyebamiji recorded 444,815 votes, according to reports on the tribunal proceedings.
The filing of the petitions does not itself overturn the election result. The tribunal will determine the legal challenges according to the evidence and applicable electoral law.
What Happens Next
The display of the petitions is expected to be followed by the service of court processes on the respondents and subsequent proceedings.
