Nigerian gospel singer Asu Ekiye has announced the end of his 28-year marriage to his wife, Kunemofa.
Ekiye made the announcement on Thursday, August 20, 2026, revealing that the marriage had actually ended a year earlier.
The singer said he deliberately waited before making the separation public, explaining that he needed time to process the development and arrive at a point of clarity and acceptance.
In his announcement, Ekiye described the marriage as a deeply personal journey involving growth and experience.
He said he had chosen to close the chapter with “grace, gratitude and dignity” while looking ahead to a new season of his life.
The couple reportedly married in 1998 and have four children together.
Ekiye’s announcement means that although the public disclosure came in August 2026, the marriage itself ended in 2025.
The singer did not publicly disclose detailed reasons for the breakdown of the marriage in the statement announcing the separation.
His decision to make the announcement a year after the marriage ended appears to have been deliberate, with Ekiye emphasising privacy and emotional processing.
The development has since attracted reactions from fans and followers of the gospel musician.
