Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has met with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, following his victory in the 2026 Osun governorship election.
The meeting came shortly after Adeleke’s visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he presented his Certificate of Return following his re-election.
Adeleke won the August 15 governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party, polling 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.
The governor received his Certificate of Return from INEC on Wednesday, August 19, after the electoral commission formally confirmed his victory.
He subsequently visited President Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa on Thursday.
During the meeting, Adeleke presented his Certificate of Return to the President and thanked Tinubu for what he described as allowing the election to take place without federal interference. Reports from the meeting also indicate that Tinubu urged the governor to use his victory to promote unity and political stability in Osun.
Adeleke’s meeting with Wike followed the presidential visit.
The engagement is notable because Wike had publicly defended the conduct of the Osun election and rejected allegations that the Federal Government manipulated the process.
The former Rivers State governor said President Tinubu allowed the democratic process to run its course during the election.
Adeleke’s meetings with both Tinubu and Wike come against the backdrop of intense political activity ahead of the 2027 general election.
The governor’s re-election has already generated considerable political discussion, particularly because he contested under the Accord Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party.
His victory has also fuelled speculation about the political implications of the Osun result for the 2027 presidential contest.
However, the meetings with Tinubu and Wike should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of a new political alliance unless the participants publicly confirm such an arrangement.
For now, the immediate significance is that Adeleke has begun engaging key political figures following his successful re-election campaign.
