Liverpool were forced to settle for a point at Anfield after Nottingham Forest twice took the lead before Victor Muñoz scored a late equaliser to secure a 2–2 draw.
The result came in Andoni Iraola’s first Premier League home match as Liverpool manager.
Nottingham Forest took the lead in the 24th minute when Dan Ndoye finished a swift counterattack.
Liverpool eventually responded after the break, with summer signing Alexander Isak scoring in the 60th minute to bring the hosts level.
Forest regained the advantage ten minutes later when Morgan Gibbs-White converted from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Alisson was adjudged to have fouled Neco Williams inside the area.
With Liverpool facing the prospect of another defeat, Muñoz produced the decisive moment in the 82nd minute.
The Spanish forward collected a pass from Dominik Szoboszlai, turned inside the penalty area and fired a powerful effort that went in off the underside of the crossbar.
The goal was Muñoz’s first for Liverpool and rescued a point for the hosts.
Liverpool dominated possession for significant periods but struggled to turn that control into enough clear chances, while Forest repeatedly threatened Liverpool on the counterattack.
The 2–2 result means Liverpool have now drawn their opening two league matches under Iraola by the same scoreline.
The Reds remain without a Premier League victory at the start of the new campaign, while Forest secured another strong result at Anfield.
