The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has submitted records relating to a 1993 investigation involving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to a federal judge in Washington, D.C., for confidential review.
The documents were reportedly hand-delivered to Judge Beryl Howell of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and filed under seal, meaning they are not currently available for public inspection.
The development followed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) legal dispute involving American transparency activist Aaron Greenspan, who has sought access to records held by US federal agencies concerning Tinubu.
According to reports citing court filings, the FBI submitted the material after a court order required the agency to comply with the proceedings surrounding Greenspan’s request.
The records reportedly concern a 1993 investigation that has previously generated public interest because of allegations relating to drug trafficking and money laundering. However, the submission of investigative records does not by itself establish that President Tinubu committed any offence.
