Peter Obi has defended his record as Anambra governor, saying his performance in the state demonstrates his capacity to improve Nigeria if elected president.
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has defended his record as governor of Anambra State following criticism from his former running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed.
Obi said his experience governing Anambra demonstrated that he could apply similar principles at the national level if elected president in 2027.
He made the comments in an interview following Baba-Ahmed’s assertion that none of those challenging President Bola Tinubu could fundamentally change Nigeria.
Obi Points To Anambra Record
Obi argued that his time in Anambra provided evidence of his approach to governance.
He said that if given the opportunity to lead Nigeria, his priorities would include restoring order in government, reducing waste and tackling systemic corruption.
The former governor has repeatedly made production, fiscal discipline and public-sector efficiency central themes of his political campaign.
Response To Datti
Baba-Ahmed, who served as Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, recently questioned whether any of the politicians challenging Tinubu could rescue Nigeria.
Obi’s latest response represents a clear defence of his political record and presidential credentials.
The 2027 Contest
Obi is now contesting under the NDC platform, while Baba-Ahmed has continued to make independent political assessments of the opposition landscape.
Their exchange comes at a time when Nigeria’s opposition remains divided among several parties and presidential candidates.
