APC Presidential Campaign Council Director-General Abdulaziz Yari says the North should support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing Tinubu’s support for former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has called on Northerners to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.

Yari argued that the North should reciprocate the support Tinubu gave former President Muhammadu Buhari when the region produced Nigeria’s president.

The Zamfara politician said the North had no reason to reject Tinubu’s re-election bid, presenting the appeal as a matter of political reciprocity.

According to Yari, Tinubu supported Buhari during the period when northern political interests were seeking to retain the presidency, and Northerners should now return that support.

His comments add to a growing campaign by APC leaders to consolidate northern support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The appeal also comes amid an increasingly competitive political environment in which opposition parties and politicians are attempting to build alliances across regional and party lines.

The APC campaign council has been stepping up consultations and mobilisation ahead of the election, including engagements with political and traditional leaders.

Yari’s argument is anchored not on constitutional zoning but on political reciprocity, portraying Tinubu’s support for Buhari as a reason for northern voters to support the incumbent in 2027.

The 2027 presidential race is already generating competing appeals based on regional representation, performance, political alliances and continuity.
