NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has authorised the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to release his academic records, saying he has nothing to hide and challenging other presidential contenders to subject their credentials to similar scrutiny.

Obi said he was comfortable with legitimate scrutiny of his academic history and other official records relating to his background.
His intervention comes amid a legal and political dispute over his academic credentials, with Labour Party chieftain Abayomi Arabambi pursuing legal action seeking access to Obi’s academic and National Youth Service Corps records.
Rather than oppose the release of the documents, Obi said he was giving UNN the go-ahead to make the relevant records available.
The former Anambra State governor also broadened the challenge to other politicians seeking the presidency, arguing that candidates asking Nigerians to entrust them with public office should be willing to subject their qualifications to legitimate verification.
“I have nothing to hide,” Obi said, according to reports of his latest comments.
The controversy over Obi’s credentials has become another flashpoint in the emerging 2027 presidential contest, particularly as political parties and their candidates increasingly face scrutiny over their backgrounds.
Obi’s position represents a departure from a defensive approach to the controversy: instead of resisting disclosure, he is asking his alma mater to make the relevant records public.
The development is likely to intensify scrutiny of the academic qualifications of presidential candidates as the 2027 election approaches.
