The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a total and indefinite strike across Lagos State-owned universities, including Lagos State University (LASU), over what the union says is the government’s failure to implement agreed terms.
The action takes effect from Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
The union’s Lagos State University branch reached the decision during an emergency congress meeting after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Lagos State Government.
The dispute centres on the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and other outstanding demands affecting academic staff.
Reports indicate that the industrial action extends beyond LASU to other Lagos State-owned institutions, including the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH).
The strike threatens to disrupt lectures, examinations and other academic activities across the affected institutions.
ASUU’s decision follows growing frustration among university workers over salary-related matters, retirement benefits and the implementation of agreements reached with government.
