Datti records 22,890 votes to emerge winner in Kano State constituency poll
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Hussaini Yusuf Datti, has won the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa State Constituency bye-election in Kano State.
Datti secured 22,890 votes to emerge ahead of the other candidates in the election conducted to fill the vacant seat in the Kano State House of Assembly.
The reported results were:
- APC — 22,890 votes
- PRP — 270 votes
- PDP — 180 votes
- APP — 53 votes
- LP — 39 votes
Datti leads the poll
The result placed the APC candidate substantially ahead of the other contestants in the constituency.
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) recorded 270 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 180. The Action Peoples Party (APP) received 53 votes and the Labour Party (LP) recorded 39 votes.
The election was held to fill the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa State Constituency seat, which became vacant after the former representative, Shuaibu Rabiu Nagoggo, popularly known as Abba Gano, moved to the House of Representatives.
How the seat became vacant
Nagoggo had previously represented Dawakin Kudu in the Kano State House of Assembly before winning election to the National Assembly.
His move followed the death of Alhaji Muhammad Hassan, who represented the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Hassan died in Abuja in April 2026 at the age of 66, after which a federal constituency by-election was held and won by Nagoggo, leaving the state assembly seat vacant.
Result adds to Kano’s political activity
The bye-election comes amid heightened political activity in Kano and across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
With the result, Datti is set to take up the vacant Dawakin Kudu/Warawa seat in the Kano State House of Assembly, subject to the completion of the relevant electoral and legislative processes.
