Organisers describe event as one-million-man walk as supporters march through Calabar
Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State on Saturday staged a large solidarity walk in Calabar in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Bassey Edet Otu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The procession was organised by the Evidence Group, a youth-focused mobilisation platform, and moved through major streets of the state capital after commencing at Millennium Park.
The organisers described the event as a “one-million-man solidarity walk”, although reports from the event described the turnout as thousands of youths, women, elders and political supporters drawn from communities across the state.
Support for Tinubu and Otu
Participants carried banners and placards expressing support for the President and the Cross River governor, while political chants and songs accompanied the procession.
The mobilisation comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties and political groups increasingly organising grassroots events across the country.
The Evidence Group said the mobilisation was intended to demonstrate support for the APC administrations at the federal and state levels and encourage greater participation by young people in governance and the democratic process.
Group targets wider mobilisation
The Director-General of the Evidence Group, Bassey Eyoma, said the Calabar event was the beginning of a broader mobilisation campaign across Cross River State’s three senatorial districts and 18 local government areas.
Eyoma said the group intended to mobilise support for Tinubu, Otu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
He also said the organisation was targeting four million votes for Tinubu in Cross River, a political objective attributed to the group rather than an independently established electoral projection.
Government representative addresses supporters
Representing Governor Otu at the event, Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly Sylvester Agabi commended the participants for their involvement.
Agabi said the state government remained committed to youth engagement and security, urging young people to channel their participation towards what he described as constructive civic engagement.
The procession temporarily affected vehicular movement around Millennium Park and adjoining routes before ending peacefully.
The event marks another visible sign of the growing political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, although the extent to which such rallies translate into electoral support will ultimately be determined at the polls.
