Party spokesperson says 2023 election results do not guarantee future electoral outcomes
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the prediction by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) that its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by a wider margin in Lagos State during the 2027 election.
The APC’s Lagos spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, said the outcome of the 2023 presidential election should not be interpreted as a permanent political advantage for any party or candidate.
APC challenges NDC’s assessment
Oladejo argued that the 2027 contest would be determined by voters and the prevailing political circumstances at the time of the election.
His response followed the NDC’s assertion that Obi could expand his margin of victory in Lagos, where the party said his performance in 2023 reflected the state’s political preferences.
The APC spokesperson’s position reflects the governing party’s rejection of the opposition’s projection and its emphasis on the uncertainty of future electoral outcomes.
2027 contest remains open
Past election results can inform political analysis, but they do not guarantee the outcome of a subsequent election. Voter turnout, candidate selection, campaign activities, party organisation, alliances and public opinion may influence the 2027 contest.
The exchange between the NDC and Lagos APC highlights the growing political competition surrounding the state ahead of the presidential election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be responsible for conducting and declaring the election in accordance with the applicable electoral framework.
