Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has urged voters in the state to support candidates of the All Progressives Congress across the ballot, ahead of the state’s local government elections and the 2027 general election.
Mbah made the call on Thursday at Amagunze, headquarters of Nkanu East Local Government Area, during an APC grand rally organised by the Nkanu East and Nkanu West councils.
The local government election is scheduled for Saturday, September 26.
Governor Rejects Vote-Splitting
Mbah cautioned supporters against what he described as attempts to persuade voters to support candidates from different political parties across various positions.
He urged APC supporters to vote for the party’s candidates across the ballot.
The governor also called on residents to participate in Saturday’s local government election and support the APC candidates.
His remarks were delivered in the context of the party’s campaign for the immediate local government polls and the longer-term 2027 political contest.
Mbah Links APC Support to Governance
The governor told supporters that the performance of his administration and local government councils had benefited from reforms and support associated with the federal administration of President Bola Tinubu.
He urged voters to assess developments around them when deciding how to vote.
Mbah also emphasised the importance of rural development, arguing that efforts to reduce poverty sustainably must include communities at the grassroots.
Enugu’s Political Landscape
The governor’s directive reflects the increasing political alignment between his administration and the APC ahead of the 2027 general election.
The immediate test comes with the September 26 local government election, after which political attention is expected to increasingly shift towards the 2027 elections.
The call for unified voting is a political appeal from the governor and APC leadership; the eventual outcome will be determined by voters and the electoral process.
